Celebration: " Chemistry Day 2013".
50 years of SITPChem in Cieszyn
on 24.05.2013

Polish Association of Chemical Engineers SITPChem in Poland celebrated its’ 85th anniversary last year. SITPChem Branch in Cieszyn is now celebrating 50 years of its activities related mainly to chemistry and technology of paints and varnishes. The SITPChem Surface Coatings Division is being very active.

Cieszyn is an old (1200 years) historical city located in southern Poland. There is a large paint factory PPG Polifarb Cieszyn there producing mainly industrial coatings.
The city has a long tradition in the education of young people, including schools of chemistry as a major subject.

One of the important elements of SITPChem activities is the cooperation with schools. Celebration of the 50th Anniversary was held at the high school with the participation of its association’s members and students. It was attended by representatives of Cieszyn District, including the District Administrator, Chairman of the District Council and the Mayor of the City of Cieszyn and the Board of SITPChem from Warsaw.

The program included, among others:

  • Lecture: "Traditions of Cieszyn Chemists - 50 years of SITPChem in Cieszyn" given by Jozef Koziel- President of the SITPChem Branch, President of the FATIPEC Federation.
  • Lecture: "Chemical describing of the world" - presented by Prof. Dr. Jacek Kijenski - Chairman of the Board of SITPChem from Warsaw,

85th anniversary of the Polish Association of Chemical Engineers Warsaw
27 November 2012

85 years ago took place the organizational meeting of the Engineers Chemists Association, which became basis for the Polish Association of Chemical Engineers newly formed in 1927. SITPChem is a continuator of this organization.

This great jubilee was attended by representatives of the Polish government, universities, research institutes, directors of the largest chemical companies.
Throughout history SITPChem played important role in formulation of development programs in the chemical industry in Poland . SITPChem members were making efforts to increase the technical level and the importance of the chemical companies, academic institutions and administration at various levels.

Chemistry is in us and around us, everything that makes up the achievements of civilization and culture requires equipment, materials and substances chemically processed by the laws of chemistry and physics. Chemistry is everywhere.

In 2012 Surface Coatings Division of SITPChem organized technical and scientific seminars concerning materials for coatings with the involvement of companies: Evonik, Cytek, Elementis and others.

We organized a "Weekend of Chemistry" with chemical knowledge contest for junior high schools (18 teams) and high schools (14 teams).

There was also a Chemical picnic for children and young people with presentation of chemical experiments and outdoor painting with the theme "Solar Chemistry".
A number of events including technical and tourist trips, meetings with competitions in the knowledge of paints and varnishes, and many others were organized.

Events in 2013

  • Seminars with the theme of chemistry and technology coatings.
  • Chemical competitions for schools.
  • Trips to chemical plants.
  • Meetings and cultural integration.
