European Technical Coatings Congress ETCC 2016

European Technical Coatings Congress ETCC 2016 was helt 25-26 May in Birmingham alongside the UK's leading coatings show, Surfex . The congress was co-organised by Federation of Associations of Technicians for Industry of Paints in European Countries (FATIPEC) and The Oil and Colour Chemists' Association (OCCA).
Title of the Congress was: “Advances in Coatings Science and Technology”.

The Congress took place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, UK and was attended by nearly 300 participants including coatings manufacturers, scientists, academics, raw material and equipment suppliers from more than 30 countries.

During the congress 56 presentations were delivered in three parallel sessions.

Topics for the ETCC 2016 papers were:

  • Progress in production, application and processes
  • Crosslinking and hardening
  • New optical properties of coatings
  • Corrosion protection

  • Sustainability in the coatings field


Three awards of 1000 € each were handed out during the Congress:

The FATIPEC award for the best presentation at the ETCC 2016 was given for the paper entitled "Cheap and robust 3D printed applicators for use in robotic high-throughput film applications," which was delivered by Jaap Akkerman, Nuplex, The Netherlands. This prize is awarded based on three criteria: originality, the quality of the results and the presentation itself.

The Young Scientist Award went to Anastassija Wittmer from Fraunhofer Institut für Fertigungstechnik und Angewandte Materialforschung IFAM, Germany, for her presentation on "Intrinsic self-healing coatings."

The Alain Clause Award for the best lecture on environmental and ecological aspects was granted to Christina Gabriel from Fraunhofer Institut IPA, Germany for the lecture „Modified starch as potential water-based binder system for interior Coatings”.
